Your Key Responsibilities

As a member of the Ship’s Crew, you will be cross-trained to work in two main areas:

1. Informational Guide

  • Greet Guests: Enthusiastically welcome all visitors to the museum ship.
  • Tell the Story: Provide engaging information and facts about the ship’s history, culture, and crew to individuals and groups.
  • Assist Visitors: Answer questions and guide guests through various tour areas.
  • Daily Upkeep: Ensure the ship’s presentation is excellent by performing daily cleaning of the tour route, restrooms, and removing cobwebs and debris.

2. Admissions & Retail Operations (Ship’s Store & Ticket Booth)

  • Frontline Welcome: Serve as the museum’s first friendly face, enthusiastically greeting guests and handling arrivals with efficiency and professionalism.
  • Sales and Transactions: Accurately process and manage all admission ticket sales and merchandise purchases using the computerized POS system.
  • Daily Reconciliation: Perform daily counting and balancing of all cash and credit card sales.
  • Logistics & Communication: Provide clear parking instructions and use the radio to communicate vital information (attendance, safety) with staff aboard the ship.
  • Area Presentation: Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting environment in both the Ship’s Store and Ticket Booth area through light cleaning.

  • Professional Habits: Reliability in reporting to work on time, ready to begin, and maintaining a neat, clean uniform (including nametag).

Important Physical Requirements

Working on a historic vessel requires certain physical abilities. Please consider the following:

  • Stair Mobility: You must be able to safely traverse many levels of steep indoor and outdoor stairways and ladders throughout the ship.
  • Endurance: The ability to stand or sit for long periods of time during the day.
  • Movement: Occasional stretching, bending, and lifting/carrying of light retail items (such as boxes of merchandise).
  • Weather Tolerance: You must be able to work comfortably in varied outdoor weather conditions.
