Educational Tours and Group Visits
The USCG Mackinaw WAGB 83 is a 290’ Icebreaker that will give your group a tour experience like no other. Let us show you why our motto is “We Move Ships When No One Else Can”!
Our Educational Tours are specifically designed for school groups. We offer hands-on activities at various stations around the ship where you will learn about ice-breaking, knot tying, maritime history, seamanship and much more. Each tour is customized to fit your group’s specifications as well as your allotted time frame and the weather. Your tour may include stations specifically designed to teach about:
- Communication (signal flags)
- Life aboard the Mackinaw (USCG life)
- Knot Tying (seamanship)
- Dress (jobs on board, safety)
- Bridge/Conning Tower (navigation and ice-breaking)
- Monkey Fist (seamanship)
*Due to the specific scheduling of group tours, we stress a punctual arrival. Tours are expected to last approximately 1.5 hours. Porta-potties are located on the dock. As the main group will be split into sub-groups we ask that chaperones are available to escort each sub-group. Each sub-group will be limited to approximately 12 people.
